MECHANICAL DESIGN 1
ECTS Credits: 5
Objectives:
The objective of the Mechanical Design course is twofold:
- learn how to read, understand technical drawings and represent mechanical systems using the standard drawing techniques including CAD software
- understand how mechanical systems operate; identify their strengths, weaknesses and general usage.
Mechanical Design 1 is divided into two parts comprising lectures, tutorials and student projects:
a) Part 1 is an introduction to the rules of technical drawing rules based on the orthogonal projection method and to CAD modelling technique using SolidEdge © software. Team projects will be proposed at the end of this section with the objective of creating a CAD assembly model out of a 2D draft.
b) Part 2 is devoted to the basics of system kinematics and how to simplify complex systems by using groups of parts and joints in order to derive kinematic diagrams. Team projects will conclude this sequence with the objective of creating 3D CAD moving assemblies from drafts of parts.
Each student will have to present orally at least one project.
